Ground Breaking 2009
On November 19, 2009 the Levelland Economic Development Corporation broke ground on an $8.6 million industrial rail park on the eastern edge of Levelland. A region wide audience came out to support the communities effort and enjoyed talks given by Mayor Bo Bowan, LEDC Board Chairman Elgin Conner and AVP of BNSF Vann Cunningham.
The enire rail portion - which includes a 300-acre developmetn for new businesses is expected to be complete in 2010. The project is receiving $3.3 million in federal stimulus funds along with $1.5 milion of the Levelland Economic Develoment Corportation's cash reserves. The remaing $3.8 million comes in the form of a loan through bonds sold by the city and repaid with LEDC sales tax revenues and a Tax Increment Financing District that was created for the proejct.
